This hands on, experimental workshop explores the beauty of weathered, aged and forgotten surfaces and how these can be translated into textile art.

Taking inspiration from rust, peeling paint, corrosion, worn walls, natural textures and other found surfaces, participants will experiment with a range of mixed media textile techniques including printing, mark-making, collage, layering and stitch.

Throughout the day, participants will build a collection of experimental textile samples, exploring colour, texture, composition and surface. They will then select and develop their favourite elements into an individual abstract textile artwork.

The emphasis will be on experimentation and personal interpretation, so there will be plenty of opportunity for participants to take the techniques in their own direction. Everyone will leave with a finished piece of textile art as well as a collection of samples and ideas to continue exploring.

I think this could work particularly well as a full day workshop, although I could also develop it into a two-day workshop if you feel that would fit your programme.
