This is a distance learning course towards a City and Guilds approved qualification. This qualification is comparable to a GCSE at grade D-G and is ideal if you're just starting out or are new to the subject area. This level covers routine tasks and basic knowledge. 

 

What you will learn:

 

  • How to safely use a sewing machine and accessories
  • How to care for your sewing machine
  • The functions, controls and features of your machine
  • How to use machine accessories
  • Types and uses of different fabrics
  • Types and uses of different haberdashery
  • Types and uses of different stitches


We operate a completely flexible approach to the course with the ability to complete stage modules at your own pace. This is particularly useful for learners who might have other exam commitments etc throughout the year or might need to take breaks through the course for a variety of reasons.

A level 1 course is suitable for children with a reading and comprehension age of 12 plus with no maximum age imposed. The course is suitable for both children and adults starting out in sewing.


The course is assessed by an assigned assessor, through the submission of work and photographic evidence, after completion of each of the four modules. 

*Total cost of course is £150 but is payable in 3 monthly instalments of £50.
What happens next? Your 1st payment will be the date of purchase, followed by 2 monthly payments of £50. After your initial purchase which you will receive an enrolment form and course guide.

Via email: You will receive details of the monthly Zoom tutorial sessions planned as well as your log in details for the learning portal.

  • Monthly assessment and feedback from an assigned assessor
  • Online support from a qualified and experienced teacher
  • Registration and certification from the exam board, City & Guilds.


Please note - this course has been designed for home educated learners. The pre filmed tutorials and workbooks will guide the learner through the qualification but there may be the need to complete further independent research. Many of our learners are able to complete the work completely independently.

As the course is designed to be flexible, IDC College does not chase for late submissions or impose any deadlines. For those that would prefer a more structured approach to their course, termly dates are provided as a target date to complete each workbook in order to complete within 2 years**.

If your learner needs longer to complete their course, it is absolutely possible to submit work even after payments have been completed. If your learner completes their course before their payment plan has completed, you will be asked to pay the remaining balance before your learners certificate is released.

The enhanced DBS checked course tutor is available for support through direct messaging by email for as long as your learner is progressing through the course.

 

**Please note, the course must be completed within 2 years to recieve your City & Guilds qualification. This deadline is set by City & Guilds.
