Hand Embroidery

Embark on a Year-Long Embroidery Journey with Us!

Join our monthly embroidery course and explore the captivating world of stitches.

 

Over the span of a year, you will master various embroidery techniques, starting with basic skills and advancing to more complex methods each month.

Every session will introduce you to stitches from different embroidery disciplines, including blackwork, crewel work, silk shading, canvas work, and many more.

 

Discover the diverse threads and fabrics used in embroidery, and as your confidence grows, so will your technical skills and knowledge.

 

For beginners to intermediate level

 

10am till 3pm

£75.00 per session

Beginners Embroidery

Creative Textiles

Join Ruth as you venture deeper into the world of Art Textiles.

During this 4-session block of workshops we will experiment with a variety of textile colouring techniques:

  • Procion dyeing, printing (de-colourant and themafax)

  • Free-machine embroidery

  • Stitch doodling in 2d

  • Sculptural work with dissolvable fabrics

  • Hand stitching techniques

Total cost is £340 and includes all materials and use of equipment.

This course is for 4 classes once a month for 4 months. Please check you can make all the dates before booking.

Sewing Equipments

Tailoring For Beginners

Learn all the basic skills needed to create a fully tailored garment; a shirt, waistcoat or trousers.

 

Techniques that will be covered during the course will be:

  • Pockets

  • Fly Zips

  • Collars

  • Finishing techniques

  • Tailored standards with hand finish work

  • Linings and hems

  • Tailored trouser and skirt waistbands

  • Handmade buttonholes

Weekly sessions are held every Wednesday evening 6pm-9pm.​​

£35 per sesson, or block book 4 for £120

Sunday Sessions: First two Sundays of the month

Times  10am - 4pm

£85 per session or £150 for two

Intermediate Tailoring

Learn how to construct a fully tailored jacket.

You need to have a good knowledge of tailored finishes, if you have not already covered our Beginners course.

This course is specifically designed for individuals passionate about crafting a bespoke jacket.

 

Using block patterns, you will learn to  cut and make a jacket from start to finish. 

Whether you are an aspiring tailor or looking to sharpen your skills, this course will equip you with the expertise to create beautifully tailored jacket.

Techniques that will be covered during the course will be:

  • Cut Jacket  from a block

  • Make various parts of a  jacket with precision, resulting in a high quality finished garment.

  • Set sleeves correctly, to achieve perfect shoulder alignment and a clean professional finish.

  • Understand the jacket  structure including interlining and canvasing, to create durable and well-shaped jacket.

  • Install linings smoothly.

  • Construct collars.

  • Attach buttons and hand-make buttonholes .

  • Press and finish jackets  to a professional standard, ensuring a crisp and tailored appearance.

Dressmaking For Beginners

Clothes Making from a Pattern

Do you long to make your own clothes but find it difficult to follow a pattern?

 

These sessions will give you the skills to make your own unique garment from start to finish.

 

You will select your own pattern and fabric and learn step by step from pattern cutting and making a toile through to the importance of hand finishing.

 

You will be able to learn about different materials, design and patterns.

You will learn:

  • How to follow & cut a pattern

  • Make a toile

  • Take accurate measurements

  • Make alterations (if required)

  • Pin & cut the fabric

  • Add darts, pleats, zip and buttons

  • Accessorise for individuality (if time)

Additional Costs: You will need to provide a 'Very Easy' simple clothes pattern, ideally; Simplicity, Butterick or New Look (one item please). You will also need to bring the specified fabric quantity (usually shown on the reverse of the pattern). Tools , sewing machines  and overlockers are provided.

Sessions can be Full Day, Morning only or Afternoon only. 

10am till 4pm   £85 per session

10am till 1pm  £45 per session

1.30pm till 4.30pm £45 per session

or Sewing Machine

One Day Workshop

Do you have a lovely sewing machine or overlocker that your brought at a craft show and it's still in the box?

Let me show you how to unlock the potential of your machines.

Together, we can take the stress and the worry out of using your machine and increase your confidence with it.

In this class you’ll have the opportunity to experiment and create samples on calico of all the stitches your machine may cover. 

 

With your overlocker, you will be able to cover the threading of the machines and changing the tensions, as to what you are sewing or neaten  a garment.

 

  • Samples sheets will help you remember it all when you get back home.

  • Learn about the different machine feet and what they are used for.

  • Learn about the different stitches and what they are used for

  • and lots more tips along the way!


You will need to bring your machine with you. along with all the accessories and instruction manual.
